Nagasaki University Collaboration Agreement
Atlantis, a global leader in the predictable tidal marine power generation sector, announces that it has entered into a Collaboration Agreement with Nagasaki University (“NU”) to jointly investigate the feasibility of tidal power generation at a number of sites in and around the Goto Islands, Nagasaki, Japan. The joint study will support the development of the sites to determine the potential level of installed capacity and the Levilised Cost of Energy (“LCOE”) for a number of scenarios.
The outcome of the joint study is a critical next step in the advancement of tidal power generation in Japan and will facilitate the implementation of the required policy and regulatory framework to move the sector forward from demonstration to commercialisation.
Tim Cornelius, CEO of Atlantis, commented:
“This Collaboration Agreement will allow decision makers to implement the policy required to move the tidal sector forward in Japan. We are delighted to bring our operational experience from the MeyGen project to Japan to facilitate the accelerated development of the sector. The MeyGen project, now operating autonomously with 6MW of installed capacity can serve as a catalyst and allow Japan to move forward with the deployment of commercial scale devices and benefit from the knowledge and years of R&D undertaken in Europe. We are very excited to work with Nagasaki University on this exciting project”
