Atlantis response to Energy Technology Institute’s report
Atlantis welcomes the Energy Technology Institute’s findings released today which confirms that tidal stream generation will soon compete with other low carbon energy sources in terms of cost.
Tim Cornelius, Atlantis CEO and chairman of the MeyGen project said:
We welcome and support the ETI’s suggested priorities for the UK marine energy industry. We fully endorse the ETI’s assertion that the MeyGen project is pivotal to the success of the UK tidal energy sector. This project is a world leading, job generating power house in the north of Scotland that is creating export opportunities whilst acting as a shock absorber for fabrication yards hardest hit by the downturn in the hydro carbon industry.
We call upon the UK government to seize the opportunity offered by tidal stream energy, building on Britain’s world leading status in the sector. Britain needs to promote, stimulate and prioritise the creation of high value jobs as it prepares for BREXIT. Tidal stream must and will be part of the UK’s future energy mix”
